Martha C. Nussbaum’s Lecture: “Anger and Revolutionary Justice”.

Professor Nussbaum is the Ernst Freund Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Ethics in the Law School and Philosophy Department of the University of Chicago. She is also is known worldwide as an outstanding scholar, philosopher, and public intellectual. Professor Nussbaum’s work ranges widely across ancient philosophy, ethics, feminism, international development, theories of justice, religious tolerance, and the role of emotions in politics. She has worked closely with Nobel Prize winning economist Amartya Sen in formulating the “capabilities” approach to human development and quality of life. Her many books include: The Fragility of Goodness (1986), Sex and Social Justice (1998), Women and Human Development (2000), Frontiers of Justice: disability, nationality, species membership (2006), Not for Profit: why democracy needs the humanities (2010), and Political Emotions: why love matters for politics (2013).

The lecture will take place in the JJR MacLeod Auditorium (also known as the Medical Sciences Auditorium), 1 King’s College Circle. The date is March 6, 2015, and the lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. A reception will follow.
