Professor John Zilcosky has been elected the recipient of a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award

Professor John Zilcosky  has been elected the recipient of a Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award. The Bessel award is conferred in recognition of lifetime achievements in research. It is awarded to mid-career scholars (up to 18 years after the PhD by the time of nomination) in a world-wide selection process, from all disciplines. There are roughly 20 Bessel Prizes per year. Since 2013, out of the roughly 150 Prize winners, only 14 world-wide were from the Humanities; out of these only one from a Canadian institution (McGill). The last (and probably the only) time that this prize has been won by a U of T scholar was back in the early 2000s. The recipients of this award are internationally renowned scholars in their field whose research  continues to have a seminal influence on their discipline beyond their immediate field of work.
